Get to Know Me!

Hi! I’m Cora Cavender, a nineteen-year-old Washington based artist and the face behind Cora’s Canvas. I’m so excited that you’re here!

My ceramics journey started my freshman year of high school in art class, when my art teacher did a lesson on pinch pots. I fell in love with how a piece of mud could turn into something beautiful. After my first art class, I knew that ceramics was my favorite art form. I took every art class my school had to offer multiple times and grew in my craft tremendously.

Although my website only portrays ceramics, I am heavily involved in the arts. I’m a photographer, watercolor artist, and soon to be tattoo artist.

As a young woman who’s grown up in one of the most beautiful states, my life from an early age has revolved around art and the outdoors. I’ve been fortunate enough to experience what the Pacific Northwest has to offer. I grew up in a small town just two hours east of Mount Rainier and spent plenty of time gathering inspiration from the breathtaking views of the North Cascades and the William O. Douglass Wilderness. Most of my Washington summers are spent at Bumping Lake Marina soaking in the tall evergreens and cool glacial runoff in the lake.

Along with Washington, I am infatuated with the Oregon Coast. After high school I spent my first year away from home living in Newport, Oregon. There I attended a small community college, found a local pottery studio I could purchase a membership at, and began selling my ceramics. This opened my eyes to the possibility of my wildest dream coming true, being a full-time artist. I moved back to Washington, stopped attending school, and now have a home studio where I create Pacific Northwest inspired stoneware.
